Inspired by my recent reading of Joe Camp's The Soul of A Horse, all about the healthy incentives to raising your domestic horses like wild horses, I made a visit this past weekend to the Great Escape Mustang Sanctuary in Byers, Colorado. The Sanctuary, located on 900 acres, is home to 22 mustangs on free roaming property, an additional six in a smaller pasture space, and a handful of wild burros. It is an amazing non profit that takes these these horses from holding locations, restores them to health, and gives them a safe and comfortable home. In addition, many of the animals are available for adoption to qualified homes.
On our visit we got a tour of the ranch, and then rode out in an old pick-up truck to find the free-roaming mustangs. Here are just a few of the pictures I took of our trip to this great organization:
